DETROIT – Chevrolet is redefining modern performance with today’s debut of the all-new Corvette Stingray. And only a Corvette with the perfect balance of technology, design and performance can wear the iconic Stingray designation.
The 2014 Corvette Stingray is the most powerful standard model ever, with an estimated 450 horsepower (335 kW) and 450 lb.-ft. of torque (610 Nm). It is also the most capable standard model ever, able to accelerate from 0-60 in less than four seconds and achieve more than 1g in cornering grip. It is expected to be the most fuel-efficient Corvette, exceeding the EPA-estimated 26 mpg of the current model.
“Like the ’63 Sting Ray, the best Corvettes embodied performance leadership, delivering cutting-edge technologies, breathtaking design and awe-inspiring driving experiences,” said General Motors North America President Mark Reuss. “The all-new Corvette goes farther than ever, thanks to today’s advancements in design, technology and engineering.”
I saw this new Retro Vette last night at the Fuddrucker's Cruise on El Toro Rd. This is being produced by an Iowa company called Karl Kustom Corvettes. This one is for sale by an Irvine auto broker by the name of Tim Scaglione, so if you have to be the first in Orange County to have this see him at Orange County Auto Wholesale. This design incorporates a lot of design clues from a mid-year Corvette and is based on a C6 platform. Some of it works for me but there are some obvious misses in the angled openings for hood and trunk, the trunk line is more obvious on the fastback. Take a look at my pics and their website and feel free to leave your comments.
Here's a stock original that happened to be there too..
Oh yeah,in case you're wondering, the headlight doors are fake - the headlights are hidden behind doors in the grille. See all the pics here.
This year's OC Auto Show shrank again, sign of the times in the Auto Industry, but there were a few good things to look at,. the Chevrolet Stingray Concept in particular...
Here's what GM had to say about it - The Corvette Stingray Concept was developed as an internal design
challenge to combine classic Corvette cues with surprisingly high-tech
features, modern materials, and a striking new appearance. The car is
well-appointed with a clamshell hood, scissor-style doors, ergonomic
seats, rear-view camera with night vision enhancement, and a high
performance hybrid drive. Interactive touch controls allow the driver
to customize the power and efficiency of his or her ride and share it
with friends via the in-car camera system and advanced telemetrics.
While I'm not a big Corvette fan I do like the looks of this one!
...and while shooting this one I ran into my good friend Joy Loo (on the right), author of the Joy to my World blog...
